How to Fix a Huggie Earring That Won’t Click Shut

If you have a pair of our Hoop Earrings and the back of one no longer clicks into place, it may be due to a slight misalignment of the pin (the small straight part that goes through your ear).

Over time or with gentle knocks, the pin can sometimes bend very slightly. When this happens, it may no longer line up with the latch (the small groove that the pin locks into), which prevents the earring from closing securely.

How to Fix It

You can usually resolve this with a quick, careful adjustment:

  1. Locate the pin – this is the thin straight part that hinges open.
  2. Check the alignment – close the earring slowly without clicking it shut, and see if the pin is slightly too high or low in relation to the latch.
  3. Gently bend the pin – using your fingers, apply very light pressure to bend the pin up or down where it meets the hinge.
  4. Bend only a small amount at a time. Check the fit after each adjustment.
  5. Test the click – try closing the earring. If it clicks securely into place, it’s fixed.

Tip: See the image below – bend the pin at the point indicated by the yellow arrow, in the direction needed to line up with the latch.

Important Notes
  • Only bend the pin slightly – too much force can damage the hinge.
